Charity trust backs latest Sir Tom plea

A charity is inviting its supporters to take part in a national fundraising event to celebrate the achievements of Captain Sir Tom Moore

Following the outpouring of heartfelt messages since the death of Captain Tom on February 2, his family pledged to celebrate his life with an event that everyone, in the UK and around the world, could be involved in.

That event is the Captain Tom 100 and the Parbold-based Natalie Kate Moss Trust is pleased to be involved.

The charity was set up in 2012 by the Moss family after Natalie died of a sudden and unexpected brain haemorrhage at the age of just 26 in 2011.

Keen to turn the tragedy into something positive, the trust supports ground-breaking research into the prevention and treatment of brain haemorrhages. As is the case with many other charities, it has been hugely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fiona Moss, co-founder of the Natalie Kate Moss Trust, from Parbold, who is the sister of Natalie, said: “This is a really exciting and fun opportunity to celebrate the achievements and life of the incredible Captain Tom and to help his family achieve this legacy.

“We hope that all our supporters will join in and think of some fun challenges around the number 100 so that, together, we can really capture the generosity of spirit that Captain Tom brought to the nation one year ago.”

All participants need to do is dream up a Captain Tom 100 challenge based around the number 100 and do it at anytime and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend – starting on Friday , April 30 through to Bank Holiday Monday on May 3.

The challenge could be walking 100 steps or running 100 metres, scoring 100 goals, baking 100 cakes, climbing 100 stairs, hopping 100 laps of the garden, building 100 sandcastles, writing a 100-word poem, flipping 100 pancakes – anything at all, inside or out.

Once supporters have chosen their challenge, they can fundraise or donate to the Natalie Kate Moss Trust and share their 100 on social media, using #CaptainTom100.
