While the second wave of the pandemic has brought with it fresh heartbreak and restrictions, just one hospital saw more deaths in a single day than during the first wave.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which runs the Royal Preston Hospital (pictured), recorded its worst day for deaths on April 15, when 11 were reported. Its current death toll is 394.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Lancashire Infirmary (pictured), had its worst day on April 2, when 13 deaths were reported. Its current death toll is 314.

The Wrightington, Wigan, and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (pictured), had its worst day on April 16, when 12 deaths were reported. Its current death toll is 503.

The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Blackburn Hospital (pictured), was the only trust to have its worst day during the second wave, with 11 deaths reported on November 11, followed by 10 on both November 23 and 24. Its current death toll is 479.
